2024
I love late evenings in my hometown, and how the sun bounces of the terraced houses and parked cars.
A corresponding photo to the one taken on day 4 of this month’s photo challenge. Always an unsettling sight, the slow drift of discarded blossom petals along the roads and into the drains.
A shot from earlier this month of a corner shop in Kemptown to represent community. While I don’t think this is it, there’s a good photo to be found in this location. One to add to my list of shots to revisit.
I had a good idea for today’s prompt, surprise, but rain put pay to that. So here’s a photo of Claes Oldenburg’s surprising Garden Spade sculpture spotted in Serralves Park, Porto in September 2022.
Went looking for a critter, and found this one tucked away in a drawer.
For today’s prompt, spine, a photo of my trusty Bradshaw’s Railway Handbook from 1863. Not an original copy sadly, but a reproduction.
Possibly stretching today’s prompt, light, but bubbles are light and this illustration on the side of a building brilliantly captures the way they reflect it.
The only difference between web design in 2004 and 2024 is that websites are now painted in Figma instead of Photoshop.
I caught this reflection of St. Peter’s Church in a puddle the other day and, when rotated, it has quite a dreamy quality.
Walls and Trumpets by Ofra Zimbalista shows 3 blue men carrying musical instruments hanging from the front facade of Maya House on Borough High Street.
Today’s prompt is mountain. Here is a photo of the Sunnmøre Alps that surround Hjørundfjorden in Norway, which I visited in June 2018.
Another from the archives for today’s prompt, ice. Here’s a photo I took during a walk across a frost-covered Cannock Chase on New Year’s Day back in 2009.
A darker theme than possibly expected for the prompt of birthday, but I’m having to work with what I’ve got (which in this case is a nearby cemetery).
I wasn’t able to take a photo for today’s prompt, mood, so here is a moody photo from inside the Isokon Building in Hampstead, which I visited during last September’s Open House Festival.
Seeing the lowering sunlight get caught up in tree leaves yesterday felt like an apt depiction of transcendence.
Today I learned that a flâneur is ‘someone who walks around not doing anything in particular but watching people and society’. Hi!
A quick progress update covering what’s recently been added, what’s still missing and my longer term ambitions for the project.
Something small that I’ve owned since I was small.
Today’s prompt is cactus. Hey, I have one of those!
I took this photo during last September’s photo challenge, and today’s prompt is the perfect time to share it.
Somebody held on to this historic edition of The Independent – whose front page covered the death of Labour Party leader, John Smith in May 1994 – only to throw it away 30 years later.
The magic of springtime.
I headed to the river after work and found myself taking photos of the unsightly and growing clutch of tall buildings in the city that are trying to touch the sky.
A familiar face greeted me this morning.
With today’s prompt being train, another photo from the archives, this time from a trip to the National Railway Museum in July 2013.
Did I buy an iceberg lettuce just to photograph something crispy? No comment.
For today’s prompt, prevention, a quick dash round the neighbourhood to find an appropriate street sign. A recent shower meant there were plenty of opportunities to try something arty.
Today’s prompt, well-being, neatly coincided with the running of this year’s Brighton Marathon. An opportunity to photograph moving subjects, and there’s lots I need to learn here. However, of all the photos I captured, this one stood out the most, perhaps because of the composition.
It’s not very windy in Brighton today, so here’s a photo of Rottingdean Windmill taken in May 2011.
Without the good weather to draw in the crowds, Brighton beach can be eerily serene.
In terms of foliage, which is the most picturesque season, spring or autumn? Tough call!
The mission patch for our pilot features Mavis the polar bear. We chose a polar bear as our team’s mascot because they are big on protecting cubs, live in hostile environments, are highly adaptive and great at conserving energy. The northern lights reflect the colours of the teams involved with the development of the service, while the 3 stars represent the 3 SAIS teams we piloted with.
My poll card for a forthcoming election has arrived – though sadly not for the general election this country is crying out for.
These beautiful Camellia flowers grow in my parent’s garden, and I could take photos of them all day long.
Micro.blog is running another 30-day photo challenge, and I’m taking part!
The prompt for day 1 is toy. I spotted this rocking seat in a small play area near my parent’s house.
